«The Beauty and the Beast»
douGLASs 2022
Annette Douglas has been fascinated by the glass craft for many years. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Annette Douglas Textiles (2019), Annette Douglas started a journey on the subject of glass craft, with stops in the USA, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
«The Beauty and the Beast» was created in Bildwerk's cold shop, in a workshop with Sam Weisenborn, a master glass cold worker. Glass cutting as a form-changing finishing technique allows working shapes and structures out of solid glass. Through deep cuts, facets, or structures, the glass can catch the incident light, concentrate it, scatter it, reflect it and release it again for the viewer.
The created object by Annette Douglas plays rough and smooth with a degree of refinement. Implemented with the Battuto glass technique on the grinding wheel and the rough cuts, with the circular glass saw.
